JC Merger Announcement
In April 2017, MOE announced the merging of our JC with Pioneer Junior College.
I would like to thank everyone for your understanding and support over the last year. While we understand the reasons for the mergers, it was still a painful decision and journey for us, our students and our stakeholders. With the support and effort of our dedicated staff and valued stakeholders, we have ensured that our students’ educational experience remained uncompromised. Moving forward, I would need to leverage the continued support of all stakeholders to ensure a smooth merger process for both staff and students.
MOE had assured that input by affected colleges and stakeholders’ sentiments have been taken into consideration, together with a group of factors that it considers when naming merged schools, such as the merging schools’ history and heritage, enrolment, and the site of the merged school. It has also shared that reaching a unanimous decision on the names of the merged JCs has been difficult, and recognises that any decision made would not be able to satisfy all stakeholders.
Given the very difficult decision and the specific factors affecting JC mergers, the merged JCs will adopt a combination of the names of both JCs (in both English and Vernacular), with the name of the older JC coming first to acknowledge history and heritage. The name of the merged JC will be Jurong Pioneer Junior College. Retaining both names will provide a common footing for the merged JC to build upon the identities and strengths of both JCs. I hope that we will now move forward to embrace the merged JC name and focus on forging a new journey together as Jurong Pioneer Junior College.
Lastly, I am happy to be appointed as P-designate of Jurong Pioneer Junior College and to lead in bringing this merger to fruition.
