Mr Chiew Kang Jing

Kang Jing was a disciplined student who was always keen to learn. His determination to do well could be seen in the way he set goals for himself, and tirelessly worked towards them. Even when he encountered setbacks, he remained focused and confident. Purposeful in his pursuit of excellence, he managed to turn his low grades in Economics into higher grades within his first year of study. The result of his hard work, perseverance and resilience was his consistent good grades and stellar performance in the ‘A’ Level Examination in which he achieved As in 3 H2 and 2 H1 subjects.

As a student leader, Kang Jing was an exemplary role model. As a guitar enthusiast, he was undaunted by the fact that the College did not offer Guitar as a CCA, and took the initiative to convince the School Leaders and the student body to set up what is now a thriving Guitar Club. Besides planning a comprehensive range of programmes, he also organised a Guitar Club Overseas Experiential Learning Programme in 2011.

As the Chairperson of the CCA, he led its members in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging Competition (Guitar Ensemble) in 2011 and won a Bronze Award. This was commendable as the competition took place within a few months after the Club was set up. In the same year, he also led his peers in organising the inaugural Guitar Ensemble Community Involvement Programme (CIP) Concert to raise funds for the Singapore Association for the Deaf. In addition, Kang Jing also volunteered to be a tutor at his alma mater, Fuhua Secondary School, where he regularly gave tuition to the Secondary 4 students who were preparing for their GCE ‘O’ Level Examination.

Kang Jing’s focus and goal-oriented nature, confidence, commitment to excellence and his ability to motivate others led him to be awarded the Edusave Character Award (ECHA), as well as the Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES) in 2012.

His dedication, sense of responsibility and maturity truly makes him a good role model and leader amongst his peers.
